Review of Kenya New Constitution and Election Update-February 26, 2013
Source: U.S. Department of State, Bureau of African Affairs
A discussion forum known as "Calling on the Kenyan Diaspora: Kenya Decision 2013- What Have You Done for Kenya's Tomorrow Today Campaign" was sponsored by The Africa Society of the National Summit on Africa, as well as U.S. Department of State's Bureau of African Affairs. African Affair's Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Donald Teitelbaum held the Forum, which carried out on Tuesday, February 26th at the Department of State.
The forthcoming Presidential Elections and the Kenyan Diaspora were the subjects of debate. The Kenyan Diaspora's role representatives are, or will play in the long run of Kenya. An opportunity to speak about Kenya's U.S. policy, and to learn exactly what Diaspora reps can and are doing to be able to promote a peaceful and affluent Kenya is precisely what this exchange provided..
The United States attempts to help Kenya establish "strong intuitions, not individuals", was outlined by Deputy Assistant Secretary Teitelbaum.According to Steve Walker who's the Directory of the Office of East Africa Affairs, voter education is a "key element for elections". Steve asked guests when it comes to voter/civic education was there any way the Diaspora can help. The progress the nation has made since the elections of 2007 due to the Kenyan government was applauded by Deputy Assistant Secretary Teitelbaum. There were participants who asked Kenyans to not resort to street violence, but turn to the courts instead to seek justice, but they expressed their optimism about a peaceful resolution.
